Peel Regional Chair to be appointed by Regional Council

BRAMPTON, ON. (August 15, 2018) - On August 14, 2018, the Better Local Government Act, 2018 (Bill 5) containing a series of local government reforms, received Royal Assent. As a result, the head of council of some regional municipalities, including the Region of Peel, will be appointed by the members of Council at the first meeting of the Regional Council for the 2018-2022 term of council. There will be no public election of the Peel Regional Chair.

Candidates for Peel Regional Chair will be nominated by a member of Regional Council at the first Regional Council meeting on Dec. 6, 2018. The Regional Clerk will not be accepting nominations for the Regional Chair position prior to this meeting.

Information for previously registered candidates

The Region is waiting for the provincial government to provide information for the registered candidates regarding refunds of the nomination fee and filing of financial statements. It will be posted on our website once it becomes available.
