Statement from Peel Region on the passing of Brian Mulroney

BRAMPTON, ON (March 1, 2024) – Region of Peel Chair, Nando Iannicca, along with Regional Council and staff, is saddened to learn about the passing of the former Prime Minister of Canada, Brian Mulroney who died yesterday at the age of 84.

The Right Honourable Brian Mulroney served as Canada’s 18th prime minister from 1984 through 1993. His government introduced key initiatives including the Canada-US Free Trade Agreement, the North American Free Trade Agreement, the Canada-US Acid Rain Treaty, and the Canada-US Arctic Cooperation Agreement.

In honour of Brian Mulroney’s contributions to Canada, all flags at Regional buildings will be flying at half-mast from March 1 until the sunset of the day of the funeral.
