Celebrate Museum Month with PAMA this May

BRAMPTON, ON (April 26, 2024) – Celebrate May with a journey through art and history as Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) unveils its Museum Month festivities. Visitors can enjoy a variety of exhibitions, workshops, and events throughout the entire month.

New Exhibitions

Kimutsik
April 19 – Nov. 23

In partnership with the CONTACT Photography Festival, PAMA presents Kimutsik (dog team), 2023 by Glenn Gear. This artwork portrays untethered dogs running freely and returning as spirits set against a kaleidoscopic backdrop of beadwork crafted and photographed by the artist. It is based on a time in the mid-twentieth century when the Canadian government enforced harsh laws that saw the senseless demise of many Inuit-owned dogs as a way to push Inuit into settlements.

Oh My Dog!
May 25 – Sept. 3

This exhibition will showcase a selection of historical and contemporary works by diverse artists of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds who have focused on the dog as a symbol. It will consider a variety of perspectives on the dog’s relationship with humans around cultural identity, social and aesthetic values, ethics, animal rights, lifestyle, and consumerism.

Opening Reception: May 24, 7 – 9 p.m.
Join us for a special evening preview of the new exhibition Oh My Dog! and meet guest curator Chris Finn. This event is free, light food and refreshments will be served. Please send your RSVP to PAMAEventRSVP@peelregion.ca by May 20.
