The Region of Peel has completed the Schedule C Municipal Class Environmental Assessment study for the improvements to Steeles Avenue, from Chinguacousy Road to Winston Churchill Boulevard (see map).
The project team received input from interested stakeholders, the public and agencies at meetings and two Public Information Centres. The team evaluated various road improvement alternatives, assessed the potential environmental effects of the proposed improvements and developed reasonable means to mitigate any adverse impacts.
Key Elements of the Recommended Design
The study recommends:
- The widening of Steeles Avenue to three lanes in each direction, with turning lanes at intersections
- An urban cross section which involves curb and gutter, multi use paths, street lighting and transit facilities
- Reconstruction of the Levi's and Mullet Creek crossings
