Corporate Overview
The Region of Peel
Situated in the heart of southern Ontario's major urban centres, the Region of Peel is the second largest municipality in Ontario, with a population of over one million.
Peel has undergone a major transition during the past few decades. Rapid population growth and commercial development have transformed what was primarily a rural area of farms and villages into a dynamic blend of urban, industrial and residential areas.

Regional Government
In 1974, the Regional Municipality of Peel was incorporated based on the principle that certain community and infrastructure services, such as community health, ambulance services, water and sanitary sewers and waste collection, are more cost effectively administered over a larger geographical area.
Peel Region is governed by the Regional Chair and a 24 member Council, representing its member municipalities: the Cities of Mississauga and Brampton and the Town of Caledon. Responsible management, innovative programs and responsiveness to the needs of the people have been key factors in the economic growth and development of the Region of Peel.

Strategic Plan Archive
The Region determines its strategic direction with every new term of Regional Council. This involves renewing the Region’s Strategic Plan.
The Strategic Plan is a corporate document that guides the direction of Council and staff allowing us to focus on the changing needs of people who live and work in Peel, and helps us set priorities for resourcing and delivering services. It defines who we are, what we do and most importantly, who we do it for – the citizens of Peel. The Plan has five components: Vision, Mission, Goals, Strategic Actions and Success Indicators.
