Project Description

The Region of Peel will be replacing the existing sanitary sewers and watermains on various streets in your neighborhood in order to improve the existing services in the area.

The works include replacement of existing sanitary sewer on Melton Drive, North Service Road, Whitney Drive and watermain on Duchess Drive, Melton Drive and Whitney Drive. (see map).

Construction of the sanitary sewer and watermain installations on Melton Drive is scheduled to commence on or about September 29, 2014.

Construction of the sanitary sewer and watermain installations on Whitney Drive is scheduled to commence on or about October 27, 2014.

Construction of the watermain installations on Duchess Drive is scheduled to commence on or about November 10, 2014.

We anticipate completing the works including full restorations by the end of June 2015.

Traffic And Parking Control

The works will be phased so as to minimize disruption to traffic while still maintaining a safe working environment as required under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Please be advised that affected streets will be subject to temporary lane closures in portions of the construction area, commencing at 7:00 a.m. on or about September 29, 2014.

Once work is completed, the roadway will be completely restored to permit traffic. In this manner the loss of traffic lanes will be minimized throughout the construction period.

Full pedestrian access will be maintained at all times to residential homes on all streets. If you have particular needs, please contact us ahead of time and we will attempt to accommodate them.

Driveway Access

During construction, your driveway access may be temporarily blocked. We will contact you prior to crossing your driveway to arrange for the best time and for alternate access, if required. Additional signs will be placed if alternate routes are required.

Water Supply Interruptions

Should construction require an interruption of your water supply you will be given notice 48 hours (2 days) prior to interrupting your water supply. Occasionally we may have to reduce this notice to 24 hours. However, if an emergency shut down of the water supply is required due to unforeseen circumstances, we will make every attempt to minimize the inconvenience of the water shut down.

Private-Side Servicing

We will replace the water service pipe to your service box (the round valve in front of your
house, near the property line).

As the pipe between the service box and your house is probably the same age and condition as the watermain, you may wish to replace it to ensure a constant supply of high-quality drinking water to your tap.  This is the property owner’s responsibility; the Region cannot do this work for you.

For more information on replacing the private-side water service, please visit

Sod Restoration And Maintenance

The contractor will take care of any sod we replace for 30 days. You can help the sod to stay healthy by watering it for one hour in the early morning, two or three times a week. This is especially important in hot or dry weather. We will replace your sod as soon as we can, but there may be a short delay.

Please notify us if you have underground irrigation or a sprinkler system outside your property line. You may wish to move the sprinkler lines to inside your private property to avoid damage.

The construction work may generate slight vibrations which may be felt in your home. As a precaution, you may consider removing or securing small, light or fragile objects from shelving and walls during the construction period.

Project Updates

The Region of Peel will always let you know if there are any major changes to the plans. We will try to disturb you as little as possible. Please call the project manager or inspector if you have any problems or special needs.

We thank you in advance for your co-operation.
