Guidelines

For safety and efficiency reasons the following guidelines must be observed at the CRCs:

  1. All accepted waste must originate in Peel. Proof is required:
    • Residents – identification with a current Peel address;
    • Small businesses – an original signed letter on company letterhead
    • Contractors – a signed contract or work order with a Peel address referencing the vehicle

  2. Materials must be sorted before entering the site

  3. Acceptable vehicles for item drop off:
    • Cars, vans, pick-up trucks
    • Vehicles with trailers (max. 12 m or 40 ft. long)
    • Box trucks and cube vans (max. 5 m or 16 ft. long)
    • All vehicles with a total gross weight less than 5 tonnes
    • Vehicles with tip trailers (max. 12 m or 40 ft. long) (Fewster CRC only)
    • Dump trucks with a total gross weight less than 5 tonnes (Fewster CRC only)

  4. Unacceptable vehicles for item drop off:
    • Vehicles with trailers longer than 12 m or 40 ft.
    • Box trucks and cube vans longer than 5 m or 16 ft.
    • Dump trucks, stake trucks, roll-off trucks, garbage packer trucks and tractor trailers
    • Any vehicles with a gross weight greater than 5 tonnes (combined weight of vehicle and load)
    • Dump trucks and tip trailers may drop off at Fewster CRC only. See point 3.

  5. Maximum load weight for drop-off material is 750 kg (1650 lbs.)

  6. Children under 12 must remain in vehicle while unloading

  7. Loads must be properly secured

  8. Materials must be disposed of in appropriate bins

  9. No scavenging from bins permitted

  10. Grass and leaves must be bagged. Paper bags are acceptable for disposal; plastic bags must be emptied into disposal bin

  11. Insulation must be double bagged

  12. The following items are not accepted:
    • asbestos (PDF, 2 pages, 880 KB)
    • biomedical waste (e.g. items soiled with bodily fluids)
    • fireworks
    • flares
    • ammunition
    • PCB contaminated waste
    • radioactive waste
    • smoke detectors
  13. Businesses may apply to drop off hazardous waste at participating CRCs.
