The Region of Peel is undertaking a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) Study for implementation of the proposed Hanlan Feedermain, and more recently, the proposed Mississauga City Centre (MCC) Watermain.
This project involves selection of the preferred route(s) for two new large diameter municipal drinking water pipes. The proposed Hanlan Feedermain will start at the Lakeview Water Treatment Facility and extend north to the Hanlan Pumping Station and Reservoir located at Britannia Road and Tomken Road.
The new Hanlan Feedermain will:
- Provide additional security for water supply
- Provide sufficient capacity to meet growth in the eastern section of Peel
- Meet projected demands associated with the City of Mississauga’s planned intensification
- Reduce the operating hydraulic gradeline for the Zone 2 High Lift Pumping Station, resulting in the ability to more easily move water
The proposed MCC Watermain will start at the Hanlan Pumping Station and Reservoir and extend south to a connection point on the existing distribution system in the Burnhamthorpe Road area. This project is required for intensification in the City of Mississauga, specifically to supply minimum pressures along the Hurontario Street corridor.
AECOM is the consultant managing this project on behalf of the Region of Peel.
A number of options for the alignment of both the proposed Hanlan Feedermain and MCC Watermain (maps) have been reviewed and presented to interested or affected individuals and agencies through two rounds of Public Open Houses. The preferred routes, which may or may not follow the same alignment, will be selected based on the input of key stakeholders such as the City of Mississauga, Conservation Authorities, utilities, community groups and residents etc. Every effort will be made to minimize the impact on sensitive areas.
Design is expected to begin in 2010 with construction beginning in 2012 (although some sections could be advanced for construction with other approved capital works).
