Update on construction project repairs
Repairing the street, replacing sod, and adjusting water valves. Project 18-1370
Within the past three years, Peel Region was working in your area to replace the watermain. Watermains are underground pipes that bring tap water from our water treatment plants to your neighbourhood. As pipes age and our population grows, we need to replace older watermains to keep providing you with high quality water.
At this time, we have:
- Replaced the watermain,
- Connected properties to the new watermains by replacing individual water service pipes and water service boxes,
- Started repairing the driveways, road, curbs, sidewalk, and sod (grass) where disturbed by the watermain replacement work.
We will be returning to your neighbourhood to do some additional repair work to the street, driveways, curbs, sidewalks and/or grassy areas that were previously repaired.
Timelines for repair work
This work will be done in the late spring of 2024, as it has been put on hold due to the weather:
- Paving cannot take place when the ground is saturated with water, or the temperature is below 3°C.
- Asphalt is not available in large volumes during the winter. Asphalt usually becomes available around mid-May.
- We replace sod only until the middle of November, weather permitting, to let the sod grow roots. We will therefore replace dead sod in the spring, once it is available. Most sod farms are located north of Peel. They usually have sod available beginning in late May.
We plan to complete this work by the middle of 2024.

Settlement of the ground
It is normal for repaired areas to settle a bit in the coming months. If you notice large potholes forming in the driveway, street, lawn or boulevard, please let us know and we will ensure the contractor fixes this.
