Coping with a Dual Diagnosis 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Many learning disabilities also involve other issues such as Giftedness, ADHD, ADD and mental health issues in children and youth. Developing a plan for children with a dual diagnosis is significant for social, emotional, cognitive and long term academic success. Registered Social Worker/Therapist Natalie Orenchuk-Tomiuk will address the current literature and her professional experiences, defining and addressing key features of these conditions and how to best address the needs of the child in settings such as at home, school and in the community. The goal of this presentation is to provide parents, caregivers and educators knowledge and strategies to identify and maximize strengths, address difficult cognitive issues and behaviours and create opportunities for life long achievement and contentment. As a trained social worker, she has decades of clinical and supervisory experience in working with children with special needs. She has a consultation and clinical practice in Toronto.
