Recreating meaningful experiences
A meaningful experience is one that recalls happy memories that connect back to hobbies, occupations, traditions and other life experiences. A person living with dementia often retains these memories and the emotions associated with them, which is why it is important to embrace those moments and recreate them as often as possible.
From sharing a beverage and chat around a campfire while listening to music, to arranging a chair to look out at the bird feeders and the gardens, to setting up tax office with forms and calculators for an accountant; recreating these meaningful experiences, both small and large, connect back to the need to have things of comfort, occupation, and identity as part of an emotionally well life.
