Women’s Institute advertisement for funding to make and send socks to soldiers overseas.

Women’s Institute
Throughout World War I and World War II, Peel women’s groups such at the Women’s Institutes, the Red Cross, and the Women’s Patriotic League volunteered to provide financial and moral support for the men and women serving overseas.
Relief efforts included fundraising, community events, and sending much-needed items such as socks and linens to the troops.
Women all over Canada knit thousands of socks for soldiers in the trenches.
Thank you very much for the parcel…the socks and handkerchiefs came in very handy and it was fine to get some Canadian candies again.
