Residents are reminded that the Region of Peel and the City of Mississauga do not employ or authorize other companies to install backwater valves or sump pumps on their behalf.

Downspout Disconnection Financial Assistance Program

The Region of Peel is offering a Financial Assistance Program to eligible Peel home owners to assist with the disconnection of downspouts from the sanitary sewer system within the disconnection program areas. The program offers a reimbursement cost for labour and materials up to a maximum of $1,000.

Historical Downspout Disconnection Rebate Program Payments

The maximum reimbursement for this program is a total of $1,000 per eligible household. Any rebate payments for the property under any historical Region of Peel Downspout Disconnection program will be adjusted from the total amount of reimbursement available.

How to participate

  1. Confirm eligibility:

    To qualify, you must:

    • Own a residential property in the Region of Peel, within the eligibility program areas
    • Complete the disconnection of all downspouts on your property
    • Submit a completed application with all required supporting documentation (see documents checklist below)
    • Have a combined gross household income of $60,000 or less, AND
    • Be 65 years of age or older or qualify for a pension plan under the Income Tax Act, OR
    • Be a person with a disability and be receiving disability benefits
  2. Complete the application and include all required documents:

    Documents Required Checklist

    For all applicants:

    • Most recent tax year Income Tax Assessment form for all registered property owners
    • Original invoice and/or receipts for all labour and material costs related to the downspout disconnection on the property

    For low-income senior applicants and/or applicants qualifying for pensions:

    • A recent copy of:: T4A-OAS, T4A, Spousal Allowance T4A and/or Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) statement
    • Verification of registered pension or annuity under the Income Tax Act

    For low-income applicants with a disability:

    • Verification of disability income (i.e. Ontario Disability Support Program,
    • Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, Private Disability Insurance, etc.)
  3. Applicants are advised to block out the Social Insurance Number on all documents submitted.

  4. Mail application and documentation to:

    Please keep a copy for your records.

    Application processing timeline is 6-8 weeks following receipt of a complete application with supporting documentation.

  5. Disconnection Verification

    Once your application has been received, with all required documentation, the Region will schedule a property visit to verify that the downspout disconnection meets the program requirements for all eligible applicants.
