How to sort your waste

This item is household hazardous waste (HHW).

Do not put batteries in your recycling bin or any waste bin as it can cause fires, putting workers at risk and potentially impacting service to the community.

Check your calendar for your battery pickup day.

This video gives a quick overview of battery collection:

Battery collection guidelines:

  • All single-use and rechargeable batteries that weigh less than 5 kg (11 lbs).
  • Car batteries and sealed lead acid batteries are not accepted. Take them to a CRC for free disposal.

Preparing your batteries for collection:

  • Stick tape to the ends of all rechargeable and 9V batteries before disposal.
  • You can also put the rechargeable batteries individually into bags.
  • Put single-use and rechargeable batteries in a clear resealable bag.
  • On your battery pickup day, place your bag of batteries on top of your closed organics (green) bin.
  • If you don’t have a green bin, place your bag of batteries beside your recycling bags.
