Construction update

Sanitary sewer construction along Old King Road, Caledon

The Region of Peel will be working in your neighbourhood to install a new sanitary sewer along Old King Road. Sanitary sewers are underground pipes that carry wastewater from your home to a wastewater treatment plant. Wastewater is created when water goes down the drain or is flushed down the toilet. In this case, we will be drilling a new sanitary force main under your street. A sanitary force main is a pressurized sanitary sewer that moves wastewater uphill, to the rest of the sanitary sewer system. As our population grows, we need to build larger sewers to keep providing high quality wastewater services.

Project details

The work will be completed by Earth Boring Co. Limited and supported by Chisholm Fleming and Associates Consultants, both under contract to the Region of Peel. The pipe will be installed underground using specialized drilling techniques, and will not require digging trenches in your neighbourhood. Aboveground construction activities will be mainly limited to a few fenced areas at each end of the new pipe.

Construction Schedule

This work is expected to begin November 14, 2022. We expect to complete all underground work by the end of 2022, weather permitting. We will return in Spring 2023 to repair any areas impacted by this construction work, such as the road, boulevard, curb, or sidewalk. All work is under warranty for two years from the completion date.

Working hours

Our contractor's normal working hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday. These hours are consistent with the local municipalitys bylaws. We understand this may cause some inconvenience, but shorter working days would require your neighbourhood to be under construction for a longer period of time.

Traffic impacts

We may need to temporarily close roads or reduce traffic to a single lane during construction. If we must reroute traffic, we will place signs giving directions. On-street parking will be reduced during construction when we are actively working on your street.

Impacts to walking routes

To keep pedestrians safe during this construction work, the Sneath Road walking path will be closed from the pedestrian bridge over the Humber River to Old King Road, as shown on the attached map. This section of the trail will be closed from November 14, 2022 until December 14, 2022.

Safety during construction

Construction zones require extra caution to keep everyone safe - pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and construction workers. When driving, walking, or biking through the construction area, please be aware of your surroundings, watch for construction crews and other road users, slow down, account for delays, and consider other routes if possible.
