Region of Peel hires Janice Baker as CAO

Brampton, ON (October 1, 2020) – Region of Peel announced today the hiring of Janice Baker as the next Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the Region of Peel.

Janice will be transitioning to the role on October 19, 2020. She brings over 30 years of municipal experience. After starting her career in the private sector, Janice discovered local government in 1987 and found her passion. Since then, she has spent her career helping to build communities. She held senior roles at both the City of St. John's, Newfoundland and the City of Oshawa, Ontario, before joining the City of Mississauga in May 1999 as Commissioner of Corporate Services and Treasurer. In 2005, she was promoted to become Mississauga’s City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer. Janice worked with the Leadership Team to direct the efficient and effective operation of the City's administration; to give the best professional advice to the Mayor and Council and to build strong relationships with the Council, the staff and the public.

“On behalf of Regional Council, I welcome Janice to the Regional team. She is an experienced and innovative leader, who has worked passionately in the community for many years,” said Nando Iannicca, Regional Chair and CEO. “Janice is a leader who will support us on delivering our strategic vision of a Community for Life.”

“At the same time, we thank Nancy Polsinelli for her dedication and leadership as Interim CAO through what has been the most challenging of times during the COVID-19 response and while the recruitment was underway,” said Iannicca. “We are thankful for her leadership and the wealth of experience she brought us during her time in the role.”
