Peel Public Health rescinds Letter of Instruction for persons aged 12 and older participating in indoor organized sports

Brampton, ON. (March 1, 2022) – In response to the improving COVID-19 context, the Province of Ontario has amended its regulations concerning the use of proof of vaccination for entry into specific indoor public spaces. To align with this change, Peel Public Health is rescinding its Letter of Instruction dated November 12, 2021, effective immediately. Peel business and organization facility owner/operators should continue to determine what polices are required to protect their clients, and their employees in meeting their responsibilities for occupational health and safety under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Rescinding this Letter of Instruction aligns with the end of proof of vaccination requirements by the provincial government at this time. Reintroduction of any measures will be carefully considered should they be necessary. Peel Public Health continues to monitor for concerning changes during this ongoing transition of our COVID-19 response. For more information, check peelregion.ca/covid19vaccine.

I continue to urge all eligible residents to get vaccinated and boosted as quickly as possible given that contacts are expected to increase with reopening. Two doses and a booster present significant protection against severe outcomes, and reduces an individual’s risk of hospitalization and ICU admission by six and ten times respectively.
