Watermain replacement and improvement
Joymar Drive. Project 16-2300 A Phase 3B
The Region of Peel has been working in your neighbourhood to replace the sanitary sewers. This work is required to maintain and improve existing wastewater services, view attached map.
To ensure a safe environment for students, construction work can only be completed near Streetsville Secondary School in July and August when school is not in session. For this reason, last summer the Region of Peel’s contractor installed a new sanitary sewer along Joymar Drive from Joycelyn Drive to Tannery Street. Construction was then paused once school resumed in September. We will be returning this summer to replace the watermain under Joymar Drive from Joycelyn Drive to Tannery Street. To protect the safety of students, we plan to begin this work by the end of June 2023, and to complete it by the end of August 2023.
Watermains are underground pipes that bring tap water from our water treatment plants to your neighbourhood. As pipes age and our population grows, we need to replace older watermains to keep providing high quality water services.
We apologize for all inconveniences resulting from digging up your street a second time. This construction will reduce the chance that any future water or wastewater construction will be required on your street for many years.
Important note
This upcoming construction will take place in the municipal right-of-way. The municipal right-of way includes the street and the land owned by your city between the street and your water service box (small, round metal valve in either your driveway or lawn). This work may impact the bottom of your driveway and the area around the sidewalk. We therefore recommend delaying any major landscaping or driveway paving until after this construction has been completed.
