Peel Region is working to provide regional services and assets that can endure extreme weather events and future climate conditions to ensure Peel communities are safe and resilient to the effects of climate change.
While everyone is impacted by climate change, not everyone is impacted equally. Vulnerable populations will be disproportionately affected, face increased risks from climate change and have the greatest difficulty recovering.
As a part of our resiliency-building efforts, we are working to support our communities by addressing the underlying conditions that make people more vulnerable to climate change, like increasing access to affordable housing, reducing poverty, and increasing access to jobs.

Peel's Urban Forest Strategy works to maintain green infrastructure by planting trees. Urban areas are usually hotter than rural or natural areas because there are more paved and dark surfaces like asphalt roads.
Trees keep things cooler by reducing surface runoff, providing shade, and absorbing atmospheric carbon dioxide.
In addition to trees, Peel is exploring and implementing various green infrastructure solutions to support sustainable stormwater management.
Ensuring the continuation of critical services to Peel residents and businesses is a priority, even in response to climate emergency.
We are completing an assessment of the exposure of all assets to climate hazards and the cost of the adaptation response. These findings will position Peel to make informed decisions on how best to respond to the threat of climate change.
