Web accessibility statement for content providers

June 2023

Peel Region is committed to implementing, maintaining, and enhancing accessibility so that residents, visitors and employees have equitable access to municipal programs, services and facilities in a way that respects the dignity and independence of persons with disabilities. This includes ensuring accessibility of Peel Region’s websites and web content.

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1) is an internationally accepted standard to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities. The Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR) under Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) requires that public sector websites be not only accessible, but also compliant with the WCAG 2.0 Level AA. Peel Region standard requires websites to be compliant with WCAG 2.1.

The PDF/UA Standard was published as an international standard in 2012. This standard provides clear terms for achieving accessibility in the PDF format.

All digital content provided to Peel Region— websites, web applications, digital documents, text, images, forms, and sounds must:

Digital content intended to be posted on peelregion.ca must be accompanied by proof of conformance to WCAG 2.1 or PDF/UA standards. PDF Accessibility Checker (PAC) or equivalent reports are accepted. An Adobe Acrobat accessibility report does not suffice as proof of conformance.

Accessible Peel Region templates are provided upon request.
